An alternative way to plan your content
Over the last couple of weeks, Iâve had calls with at least three different people stuck on the same problem:
âHow can I come up with enough things to talk about?â
Weâre not talking about crushing content schedules. Weâre talking about two to five posts per week.
Content calendars hadnât helped. It just meant that they were intimidated by four weeksâ worth of content ideas instead of one daysâ worth.
If the thing that stops you from posting regularly is the pressure of content ideas, I strongly encourage you to scrap the calendar and lean into themes.
Themes provide a container for your content ideas. Instead of sorting through a whole universe of content topics, youâre only faced with those in the container.
Here are some examples of themed content plans:
Monday: Case study
Wednesday: Explain a tactic
Friday: Personal anecdote
Monday: POV on an industry trend
Tuesday: Bust a myth
Wednesday: Tell a story
Thursday: Call to action
Friday: Show a process
See? Instead of thinking about all the thousands of things you could write about, on Monday you just have to choose a case study to share.
Containers. They keep things manageable and not overwhelming.
And theyâre completely flexible and customizable. You can follow the same rhythm every week, change up rhythms by month or quarter, or even have longer rhythms (say, six or ten or twelve containers) that you repeat.
